There are two kinds of managers. Those who take responsibility and those who take responsibility with conditions. It’s easy to tell the difference. Just listen for the “woulds” “ifs” “becauses” and “buts”. “If he had finished his part it would have been done…” “It’s not ready because…”.
Accepting the conditional opens the door for less-than-acceptable results. True responsibility doesn’t accept the conditional; the world is black and white. It’s done or it’s not, it’s finished or it’s not. Rejecting the conditional doesn’t mean you won’t still sometimes fall short, but it does mean you will insulate yourself from the thinking that allows less-than-acceptable to be acceptable.
